Healing Through the Shapes of Belly Dancing

(burlap sack material, golden beads, red decorative fish net, decorative golden coins, hard string, plaster-like material, paint, horsehair)

Self-confidence is the feeling of trust in oneself. The trust that we can do what we want to do and that we can accomplish our plans, goals, tasks, and desires. We are able to see ourself as the beautiful person that we are. It is a non-judgmental space where we can freely be—a place where one can appreciate the qualities we fail to see as positive and be okay within our own skin.

In my experience of searching within myself for true meaning and confidence, I have come across the art of plaster molding. For this piece, I have reflected my truest feelings about self-confidence. When thinking about the art of body movement, the body and mind are set in motion as a unity and the connection that stems from the feeling of trust becomes a reality. Through dance, I can express my natural self and profound feelings. Belly dance is a beautiful form of dance that through movement, poses, shapes, rituals and sensuality,
allows me to explore and find inner freedom.
