Plans for after graduation: applying to graduate programs
I have a knack for falling in love, in the most terrible and splendid way. The nature of love is as amorphous as the definition of the word itself; storge, philia, eros and agape, the four widely known 'loves' as defined by the Greeks, cover but only a modicum of the complicated experience of love.
This leads to the heart of my capstone—vulnerability
For my capstone, I decided to focus largely on passionate, romantic love. This love often rules my existence in ways that I do not yet fully understand. This love touches all facets of myself and my life, including how I experience the concept of Self.
Through my work, I strive to better understand and define love and how I experience it. Instead of allowing the mania of love to wholly consume me, for better or for worse, I have fought to repeatedly process and reflect on this love.
I strive for vulnerability, to be open and honest with my reality. My philosophy in love is to share as selflessly as possible, and so through vulnerability I can share my love not only with myself, but with all life on Earth.
I aim to transform this found/thrifted outwear into a diary of sorts, in which I can mindfully transform my inner thoughts into a tangible statement.
The act of transferring my innermost vulnerable thoughts onto a piece of clothing that can be seen and read by anyone allows myself to access my vulnerability, which to me is a signifier of the greatest strength and is the most powerful aspect of love.
This album was made in addition to my embroidery pieces, which informs and reflects certain themes in my capstone.
