Expressing myself like “normal” people has always been challenging. Encountering the Expressive Arts at a young age gave me a new breath, a second life. Things I couldn’t express in my daily life, unknown emotions that I wanted to get rid of, I could let them go through theater. In the shiniest days and my darkest hours, I cried my tears and laughed my smiles through dancing and singing. My body is my only instrument and it is still full of surprises and promises, enough to keep me excited for life about the new discoveries that await!

No word can say enough about a person—whether a child, a sibling, a friend, a father, a mother, a grandmother. Today, I am honored to be able to use the arts as a way of expressing my grandmother and all the love she had for us. Even as the arts go far beyond words, it stays impossible to express the whole unique person she was and the love that motivated her to raise our big family. My only hope is to give homage to her.

This is a process: a process of looking back, a process of realizing, a process of admiring, a process of thanking, a process of healing, a process of letting go.

My final video is composed of dance and theater, music, words, colors, images, sounds. Everything that makes a person. Everything that makes us human. It is inspired from my past memories shared with my grandmother: the sudden awareness of time, the realizations that came from her, the leaving of our family unexpectedly. It encompasses the thankfulness and peacefulness that comes with thinking of her as one of the biggest blessings of my life…and of letting her go somewhere where she will be even happier.
